We are now using the NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). This gives you the ability to have your prescription sent by us to any pharmacy you choose to collect your medicines from.
If you regularly use a particular pharmacy all you need to do to use this service is to ‘nominate’ that pharmacy. It is easy to set this up – simply ask at the pharmacy (or at your GP practice).
The great benefit is that you will no longer need to come to the surgery to collect a paper prescription. Instead you simply request the items and then go to the pharmacy to collect them. This not only saves you a visit to the GP practice but can also save you time at the pharmacy, as there will be time for them to get the items on your repeat prescription ready before you arrive. Because the prescription is sent electronically, it also means you need never worry about a prescription getting lost.
You can choose any pharmacy (in England) – it can be one near to where you live, work or shop. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are not part of this system.
If you want to collect your medicine from somewhere else, for example because you are a student going away from Oxford during the vacation, you can change your nomination easily by speaking to any pharmacist. However, do remember to tell them before your next prescription is due or your prescription may be sent to the wrong place. If occasionally you don’t want your prescription to be sent electronically for any reason, simply tell your GP and they can print a paper prescription.
